VERNACULAR VILLAGES
Each reader of this text may dive in the solar atmosphere of the images of these islands dreaming of a hot summer day, and the insistent song of the cicadas could imagine falling asleep in the cool thermal ventilated alcove of a Dammuso then, waking up and refreshing their faces, with the water of the cistern coming from the last rain storm.
In downtown Los Angeles as in many other American cities, hundreds of multistory industrial buildings were converted to housing honoring one of the fundamental concepts of the Green movement. It is called "Adaptive Reuse". In this case it means to convert an old industrial building to housing, reusing most of its original materials. It is a change of destination of use, from industrial to residential which allows considerable savings of resources and new materials for construction.
ARCHITECTURAL SUN DANCE
Like an ancient dance, in honor of the Sun God, these contemporary and futuristic architecture stand like needles facing the sky and telling of the modern reliance on this new system of energy supply. In this admission of astral need, the new creed could easily be stating: "Thank you God for the Sun."
